designing systems capable of reasoning about users' attention

Relevance to FP7

This networking session has two aims.
First creating awareness about the many applications, and research and development issues related to the design of attention aware systems.
Second the exploration of realistic and problem oriented projects for collaborative research as indicated in the Cooperation FP7 program, with the aim of building on existing know-how and resources to address the challenges indicated above.

We target in particular two of the FP7 themes: Information and communication technologies, and health. Several activities within these two themes may be targeted.

It is foreseeable that proposals developing out of this networking effort and follow-up activities will primarily contribute to areas such as ICT support to learning by humans based on a better understanding of human cognition as applied to a wide range of learners (including those with certain learning disabilities) and situations (life-long learning, knowledge management, formal educational environments, etc.).
Initiatives growing out of this networking sessions may also address the integration of technologies to create personal environments and home environments that better support interconnection to services and resources and seamless interoperability and use of all devices by minimising the cognitive load of interaction, coordinating interruptions to the user, and supporting the multi-tasking activities intrinsic to these environments.
