Support of attention in learning and collaboration: The Atgentive Project – Attentive agents for collaborative learners
AtGentive is a project which aims at investigating the use of agent-based ICT systems for supporting the management of the attention of young or adult learners in the context of learning and collaborative environments.
The objective of this presentation is to provide a description of this project, what are the first learning points, and to open a discussion related to the support of attention in the context of learning and collaborative work. Its aim is to facilitate the exchange of ideas between AtGentive project, and other projects interested in the design of more attention informed systems.

Gaze for tracking user attention and supporting communication
Information on the focus of visual attention of the user is a key element for attention tracking and for developing attention-aware systems. The use of eyegaze in building such systems will be surveyed and both possibilities and problems pointed out, to encourage discussion on future applications of the technology.
Attention tracking that is based on eye gaze can speed up the interaction and make it more natural for all users. For users with disabilities it can be crucial. This presentation will also address the use of eye tracking in COGAIN (Communication by Gaze Interaction), a Network of Excellence in the IST programme of FP6, which supports the development and dissemination of new communication tools for users with severe motor disorders.

Attention deficit - diagnosis and treatment
The Cost Action B27 - Electric neuronal oscillations and cognition. The main objective is to increase the knowledge of the electric neuronal oscillations correlated to memory and attention as the basis for neuronal regulation aimed at enhancing the human performance and health.
The presentation will provide a short description of this project with emphasis on psychometric and neurophysiologic tests of attention span, as well as EEG biofeedback techniques for improving attention and cognitive performance

40' - 50' Mary ZajicekOxford Brookes University - UK
Speech systems for attention critical environments
CARSITE - OXFORD A project with OBU, Stamford University, CA and Toyota ITC, which evaluates the acceptability and effectiveness of in-car speech messages for promoting a more attentive state in drivers.
50' - 60'

Inge Molenar – Ontdeknet - Netherland
Attention in learning: An agent intervention schema
The case of primary school children. In this presentation the Ontdeknet Intervention model for learning agents will be presented. This model has been created within two programs: the FP6 project Atgentive, and a joint research project between the Universiteit van Amsterdam (UVA) and Ontdeknet supported by the National Scientific Organisation of the Netherlands (NWO).
The effect of an agent's intervention is largely related to the match of the intervention on the situation of the learner. Based on a schema of the learning process an interventions framework has been created. Research has provided input for further enhancement of the intervention schema. The research results will be briefly discussed as well as the current intervention schema.

60' - 90' Discussion of project ideas; planning for future activities; conclusions
