Research Interests

I am interested in social, cognitive, and linguistics issues related to the design and use of digital tools; in how technology may help people learning, managing their time and activities, and communicate with others.

In my most recent research I have concentrated on attention-aware systems, i.e. systems that may support users in their attentional choices. This research is very much connected to some previous work I have done on technology enhanced teaching and learning, knowledge management, and technology integration in organizational processes. The Atgentive project (FP6 - IST-2005-027087), for example, investigates the use of artificial agents for supporting the management of the attention of young or adult learners in the context of individual and collaborative learning environment.

I have been a Senior Research Fellow (2000 – 2002) at INSEAD Center for Advanced Learning Technology (CALT) where I have done research in Multi-Agent systems supporting learning processes, knowledge management, and change management.

I have been a Mellon Fellow for 2000 and 2001, and the receipient of the first AUP's Board of Trustee Award for Outstanding Research and Publications in 2007.
